Update on ULC in Minneapolis (Assault on the Gospel)

----- Forwarded Message -----

Please keep this Campus Ministry and their pastor in your prayers, that God
will lead the District Board of Directors to keep their present place of
worship.  What a shame it would be to lose such a place, even as it would be
to lose the wonderful site and facilities that we have for our Campus
Ministry at SEMO at Lutheran Chapel of Hope.

I know Rev. David Kind personally.  I baptized him as an infant when his
parents were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Beloit, Wis. while I was
pastor at Trinity.

Pastor Kind is a very effective, conservative and confessional Campus
Pastor.  All of them in his ministry need our prayers.

    In Christ Jesus,

    Pastor Dissen,
    Rev. 2,10b

Old Intercession for Communicants

Intercession for Communicants from the 19th Century Saxon Liturgy of the Missouri Synod

Lord Jesus, who callest unto Thee all those that labor and are heavy laden, to refresh them and give rest unto their souls, we pray Thee, do let these guests also experience Thy love at the heavenly feast which Thou hast prepared for Thy children on earth.  Keep them from all impenitence and unbelief, that no one may partake of this holy sacrament to his damnation.  Take off from all of them the spotted garment of the flesh and of their own righteousness, and adorn them with the garment of the merit earned by Thy blood.  Strengthen their faith, increase their love and hope, and once make them sit at Thy heavenly table, where Thou wilt give them that are Thine, to eat of the eternal manna and to drink of the river of Thy pleasures.  Hear us for Thy own sake.  Amen

Blessings And Thanksgivings

The origin of the Common Table Prayer Come Lord Jesus can be found here on the LCMS website. It states that the earliest known printing of Come Lord Jesus was in a Moravian hymnal. What I can't figure out is how come we all use it instead of the prayer listed in the Small Catechism.

My family always used these:

(Before) Come Lord Jesus, be our guest and let Thy gifts to us be blessed. Amen.
(After) We thank Thee Lord for all our food, for life and health and every good. Amen.

The second prayer apparently comes from a 1741 hymn Be Present at Our Table, Lord written by an Anglican-turned-Methodist-turned Moravian Brethren named John Cennick. What is the connection between the Saxon Lutherans and the Moravians? I guess Martin Stephan used to hang out with them.

Be present at our table, Lord;
Be here and everywhere adored;
Thy creatures bless, and grant that we
May feast in paradise with Thee.

We thank Thee, Lord, for this our food,
For life and health and every good;
By Thine own hand may we be fed;
Give us each day our daily bread.

We thank Thee, Lord, for this our good,
But more because of Jesus’ blood;
Let manna to our souls be giv’n,
The Bread of Life sent down from Heav’n.
